Photographer: Bel Faz Photography
Jorge Faz López is a Mexican-American writer, director, cinematographer, editor, musician, photographer, designer, eccentric, farmer, death star engineer, psychic, physicist, historian, librarian, archeologist, ghost-hunter, astronaut, student, teacher, student-teacher, teacher aide, lemonade, banana smoothie, techie, and gamer.*
Jorge grew up on the southern border of Texas; born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, raised in Laredo, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
In high school, Jorge wrote a series of Star Wars fan films that didn't get made due to lack of funding. That series of fan films would later be released as "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"**.
His first video project was a fake commercial for a fake product called the RadioWatch. It was a watch that transmitted MP3s to wireless earbuds using a radio antenna. It was a terrible idea, but eventually Apple would release the Apple Watch and EarPods and suddenly that idea didn't sound so stupid anymore.
Since his entry into the videomaking world, Jorge has worked as a freelance videographer doing weddings, events, corporate videos, high-school recruitment videos, photography, and music videos - which he made with his friends' band "Bacchanalian Bliss". No, really. Google "quit bitch'n music video". I'll wait...
Out of college, Jorge worked as an editor on a short documentary with a fellow Longhorn, Chithra Jeyaram. The film is called "Mijo" and is a part of a larger documentary project called "Foreign Puzzle".
Jorge went on to find "an actual job" in television news, working at KGNS in Laredo, TX for a while as a news photographer/editor, then as a creative services videographer/editor/producer.
After a short stint in commercials, he returned to Austin to work as a News Editor at KEYE-TV, the CBS Affiliate. There, he edited videos for the afternoon news shows, and other exciting stuff like that.
Realizing that the news world wasn't for him, Jorge started working at Apple as a Professional Applications Tech Advisor. There, he has been assisting other video/film makers with Apple's line of applications such as Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Aperture. Recently, he has also supported Apple's Apple Pay (Cash) business and consumers.
Also at Apple, he has worked in the AppleCare Production team, developing and producing video projects for internal and external communications, including training, branding, and more.
All the while, Jorge has done independent video work with MediaSoup, a media production group, working on projects for SXSW and independent short films for the 48 Hour Film Project in Austin.
In 2018, Jorge moved to San Antonio, where he began working at KABB News as Promotions Producer. Shortly after, he was offered a dream position at James Avery Artisan Jewelry as their first full-time, in-house Videographer. The position granted him the ability to shape the direction and workflow of a national jewelry brand’s internal video productions - working with other internal creative, design, manufacturing, and executive teams.
Due to the devastating effect COVID-19 had on the national economic landscape, Jorge was let go from his position as Videographer at James Avery in May of 2020.
Things eventually turned around, and Jorge found a new “home” with Braustin Homes – a manufactured home dealer headquartered in downtown San Antonio – as their Senior Video Production Specialist and head of creative.
After nearly 2 years at Braustin, opportunity arose to return to Apple as a full-time Video Producer. So, that’s what he’s doing now.
Jorge currently lives in the Austin Area with his wife, son, and their dog Andie.
*Not actually some of those things.
